The Kennedy Society of Denmark has decided to award for the year 1982 John F. Kennedy's book "Profiles in Courage" to former Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt with the following reasons:

For his courage

in his work to establish and develop the new democracy and welfare society of the Federal Republic of Germany

in his work for détente and normalization of relations between East and West, especially for his courageous knealing in 1970 by the memorial to the victims of the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw, and

in his work for a more just distribution of the world's resources between
North and South, which has been expressed in the Brandt Report for the United Nations: "North-South: A Programme for Survival."
